Seminars on the revised CIETAC Arbitration Rules -
April 2012 in London, Edinburgh and Dublin

Following the launch events for the Forum in April 2011, and the two Seminars held in London in September 2011, four seminars took place in April 2012. The purpose of the those seminars was to explain the revisions to the CIETAC Arbitration Rules, in force from 1 May 2012.The speaker at the Seminars was Mr Cai Renrong, Advisor to the CIETAC Secretariat and former Chief Representative of the CCPIT in the United States.  He was accompanied by Anthony Connerty, Chairman of the CIETAC Foreign Arbitrators’ Forum.

On the 29 September Dr Li Hu spoke at a second Forum seminar, this time hosted by the U.S. law firm Wilmer Hale in their offices in Park Lane, London W1.

The seminar was opened by Gary Born, a Wilmer Hale partner and one of the world’s leading international arbitrators.  Anthony Connerty then spoke about the Forum and its purpose.

The capacity audience included many well-known international arbitrators, together with lawyers from some of the major international law firms with offices in London.

Dr Hu dealt with a long question and answer session from an audience well-versed in international arbitration.

On 28 September 2011, Dr Li Hu, Deputy Secretary General of CIETAC, spoke at an early evening seminar at the headquarters of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in Bloomsbury Square, London WC1.

The seminar was opened by the President of the Chartered Institute, Doug Jones.  He was followed by Anthony Connerty who gave an introductory talk on the CIETAC Forum.

Dr Hu’s presentation was heard by an audience which included delegates from Canada, Italy, Belgium, Lebanon and Nigeria, together with partners in leading international law firms in London. Dr Hu answered a wide range of questions from the audience.

The Forum was launched at two events in London in April, 2011.
The first was a reception at London’s historic Guildhall, hosted by the City of London.
The second was a Conference on CIETAC Arbitration held at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in Russell Square. The Conference was staged by CIETAC and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, together with the IDR Group. Clifford Chance sponsored the Conference.
